Stand Info for Withstand-WIP
Oct. 23rd, 2015 06:40 amSTAND INFO
Stand name: Luck and Pluck! Not a song reference, but pretty appropriate. Of course, if you guys want me to change it, I can!
Stand power: Luck and Pluck is a sword stand, much like what Blueford gave Jonathan in canon. As such, it is a particularly strong sword, able to hack and slash like any high class and unbreakable sword can. It can cut through metals and the like, though it cannot cut the absolutely uncuttable. It's cutting and dicing power isn't Luck and Pluck's best or most useful feature though.
Luck and Pluck has the ability to "part" things. Any item that has been put together can be taken apart with just a tap of it. Clothes will have their seams ripped, riveted metal will be taken apart, Ikea furniture will be dismantled. Luck and Pluck is not exactly a destructive power, merely a dismantling one. It can only take apart things that were put together by someone, so it cannot for instance remove bones from joints. It also cannot part things that have no joints or seams, such as a glass jar which was poured or a ceramic vase which was formed by hand. And it doesn't have the ability to put things back together.
But for example, Jonathan could use it to remove the lid from an unscrewable jar. Granted, with his arms, he doesn't need a Stand for it, but he totally could use the stand. He could also use it to dismantle a bomb, as it would easily and quickly part.
One thing Jonathan might be able to use it for that he wouldn't immediately think of is to stop a car that was about to hit him, since a single touch from Luck and Pluck would make it fall to pieces. Or he could make a house completely fall down around him and an enemy.

Feb. 4th, 2015 07:58 pmHamon or Sendo, is Jonathan's special ability which is in short the ability to channel the sun's energy through breathing into your blood in order to perform miracles like healing your own broken spine/vaporizing vampires. Better detailed in the awesome JJBA Wiki and in my comment below, it's a highly versatile power.
In particular, it affects the undead and those weak against sunlight. So to that end I would like to ask people with characters in those categories to comment here and tell me whether they are okay with being Hamoned at some point or not.

Jan. 8th, 2015 10:45 amCHARACTER NAME: Jonathan Joestar
CHARACTER SERIES: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
[OOC]
Backtagging: Yes
Threadhopping: Yes
Fourthwalling: Give me a heads up first.
Offensive subjects: Yes, with the warning that as a man from the Victorian Era and a gentleman, he has a bit of a lower threshold for such things. Rude, despicable behavior towards women is going to offend him heavily. He generally acts with consideration towards others and expects people to do the same. He's much more liberal when it comes to race than most of his peers, though he has some ideas born of ignorance (nothing that can't be corrected though) and I'm honestly not super interested into delving into that.
[IC]
Hugging this character: Yes
Kissing this character: If he's not married to Erina, yes. If he is, it should probably be chaste.
Flirting with this character: See above.
Fighting with this character: Yes, as long as we discuss the outcome. He comes from a shounen manga afterall.
Injuring this character: As long as we discuss the how and why, yes.
Killing this character: See above.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: As long as I have a heads up.

Character Information
Character Name: Jonathan Joestar
Canon: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Canon Point: End of Phantom Blood manga
History: http://jojo.wikia.com/wiki/Jonathan_Joestar/History
Personality: Jonathan's greatest desire in life is to live as a gentleman. To this end, he strives to be honorable and kind towards others. This can be exemplified in his canon introduction, where he fights a group of local youths to defend Erina and win back her doll. He gets beaten badly and when Erina tries to comfort him, Jonathan scoffs, saying that he didn't do it for her, but because as a gentleman he must be prepared to defend a lady's honor even if it means entering a fight he cannot win. This desire forms the basis of Jonathan's character, causing him to be kind and considerate towards others, even when they do not show him the same in turn.
These same ideals can also lead Jonathan to be dangerously naive, as he sometimes falsely assumes that people share his ethics, causing him to be too trusting. This can be seen when he defends himself against Speedwagon's thugs at Ogre street, going out of his way to not seriously injure them, even though they are threatening him with serious bodily harm. When Speedwagon asks why, Jonathan says that he doesn't have it within him to kill them, as they might have mothers who would grieve their loss. Speedwagon is aghast at this naivety, but also very impressed by Jonathan's nobility, becoming his steadfast friend afterwards. Jonathan's innocence has also back fired on him, such as during Dio's arrest when he acquiesced to his wish that Jonathan be the one to handcuff him, not expecting that Dio would attack him.
Tying in with the above qualities is Jonathan's pure selflessness. He tends to always put the needs of others before his own, even when it causes great suffering to himself. Whether it is catching his exhausted love interest Erina with his broken arm, or sacrificing his own life and happiness to prevent Dio's evil from spreading, Jonathan has little regard for his safety sometimes. He often wont defend himself to the extent he should, such as when Dio was harassing him for much of his childhood, not making any move to truly stop Dio. But, when Dio hurts Erina by stealing her first kiss, Jonathan becomes so furious that he nearly beats Dio to a pulp, as he cannot bear the thought of being unable to defend her honor. If it's for the sake of someone he cares for, Jonathan can become a force to be reckoned with, though he often won't take the same steps to help himself.
That's not to say that Jonathan is entirely a goody two shoes. He does have his tipping points, such as the aforementioned beat down of Dio during their childhood. During his second fight with Dio, he claims that he will feel no remorse in killing him to avenge the wrongs Dio has committed against him, a feeling Jonathan acknowledges as ungentlemanly. Jonathan also showed a great deal of anger towards the boys who bullied Erina, enraged by the injustice of it.
Raised with Dio since they were thirteen years old, Jonathan's relationship with him is unique, setting into motion the rest of the series. Dio set out to ruin Jonathan's life the moment they met, undermining his relationship with his father, stealing his friends and violently beating him. All of this was in the hopes that Jonathan would go mad from loneliness and despair. After Jonathan finally beat Dio in defense of Erina’s honor, the two settled into an uneasy friendship of sorts, hiding all their animosity under the surface. Raised as brothers, they studied together and played Rugby together. Jonathan remains suspicious during this time, but feels guilty about it, as he notes that Dio has been very kind to him. He even begins to wonder if he hasn't imagined Dio's past cruelty There's a constant pull between Jonathan's distrust of Dio and the fact that he is still strongly attached to the person he was raised with. While Jonathan does claim that he feels no remorse in killing Dio, he still cries tears when he believes Dio to be dead. And when Dio finally manages to land a fatal wound on Jonathan, Jonathan instead holds him gently and acknowledges that he feels a strange friendship towards Dio and smiling kindly at him.
The other defining relationship in Jonathan's life is Erina. When he nearly fell into despair during his childhood, it was Erina's warmth and kindness that brought light into his heart. He falls deeply in love with her and it's his love for her that gives him strength. One of the reasons he's able to win his childhood fistfight with Dio is because Jonathan feels a strong desire to defend her honor after Dio stole a kiss from her. It's because of Erina that Jonathan realizes that he can't allow himself to be pushed around any further. Later on, he even admits that his motivation for defeating Dio and his monsters is that he wishes to save the world Erina lives in. Jonathan can be overprotective of her as well, leaving her ignorant of the finer details of his battles with Dio and even leaving home without telling her, fearing that she would be in danger if she knew. For Jonathan, his wife is the only family he has left in the world, a light he must protect at all costs.
Items on your character at canon point: His clothes, a dress shirt, pants, necktie and boots.
Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Abilities
Physical Strength: Jonathan is incredibly strong due to his impressive body and having participated in both boxing and rugby. He's shown to be able to keep moving with three large men tackling him during a rugby match. He is also able to easily hold his own against multiple opponents, such as when he was fighting against Speedwagon's thugs in the alley. Jonathan is also proficient in swords and spears, able to wield the various weapons found around his family home.
Hamon
Jonathan has learned the skill called Hamon, also known as the Ripple. Hamon involves using breathing to create life energy in the body that is like that of the sun. This energy pulses through the blood and can affect living things. Non-living things can also be used to transmit Hamon and it flows particularly well through liquids such as water and oil. With Hamon, an individual can heal both their wounds and those of others rapidly, including broken bones and at one point, a broken neck, as long as the surge is great enough. He can also use it to remove poisons and venom from his body. The practice of Hamon can slow down the bad effects of aging, though not to the point of halting it completely. It's also effective against creatures weak against sunlight, being fatal to vampires and if used correctly, even distorting a vampire's thinking, causing it to take suicidal actions. Jonathan can also use Hamon to perform feats such as walking on water and making flowers bloom.
Within the series, Jonathan is shown to use Hamon as a base for the following attacks:
Zoom Punch a technique where Jonathan uses Hamon to stretch his arm's joints, extending his range and making his strike appear much faster.
Sendo Hamon Overdrive where he can send Hamon through a solid object, causing the person on the other end to be sent flying.
Scarlet Overdrive allows Jonathan to generate a ripple of flame.
Underwater Turquoise Blue Overdrive Jonathan can use Hamon when underwater to create substantial blasts of water.
Overdrive Barrage Jonathan can deliver a series of rapid jabs that allow him to deliver multiple overdrives.
Metal Silver Overdrive Like Sendo Hamon Overdrive, only it allows Jonathan to transfer his Hamon through metal.
Life Magnetism Overdrive can be used to draw plants together, effectively magnetizing them.
Sunlight Yellow Overdrive a Hamon attack that generates a level of power equivalent to the sun.
While Hamon can be quite versatile and powerful, it has several major weaknesses. It relies very heavily on proper breathing and blood flow. If Jonathan is unable to breath properly due to stress or some other obstruction, he will not be able to use Hamon. Severe bleeding or the freezing of a limb can also impair his ability to use it, as Hamon is carried through the blood. Hamon also requires the individual to be in control of their fears, as fear can impair the breathing for Hamon.
Strengths: Jonathan is an incredibly strong willed individual, often willing to fight on against incredible odds. This willpower causes him to persevere in the face of severe emotional and physical pain, such as fighting with a spear sticking from his shoulder or holding back a knife cutting into his hand.
Jonathan is also intelligent and well educated. By the time he's 20 years old, he's already written an excellent thesis in the field of archeology and graduated as one of the top students at his school. As the son of a wealthy aristocrat, Jonathan's had the very best education available to someone in the Victorian Era. He can be clever and quick minded as well, at one point winning a battle underwater by realizing that he could find pockets of air trapped by the rocks below.
Weaknesses: While he is smart, Jonathan is also naive and idealistic. He often thinks the best of others, sometimes even when he has reason not to, such as when he revealed his suspicions to Dio about his attempts to murder his father. This gave Dio too much time to prepare and plot against Jonathan, leading him to the mask.
Jonathan's naivety ties very much into his desire to be a gentleman. He tries hard to take the high road and live an honorable life. As mentioned above, he told Dio about his attempts to investigate him, partially out of naivety and also because as a gentleman, Jonathan felt an obligation to let Dio explain his side of the story. Jonathan always tries to do the right thing, not just morally, but in terms of being kind to people, even those who have wronged him.
While very much a strong physical specimen, Jonathan is still human and very much mortal. Hamon can only do so much and significant damage can still easily kill him if he is unable to breath or the damage is severe enough.

Network/Action Spam Sample: http://un-boxed.dreamwidth.org/8149.html?thread=5070037#cmt5070037
Prose Log Sample: The sound of explosions boomed throughout the ship, causing it to vibrate and shake about him. The heat and smoke was intense, almost unbearable, though Jonathan was past caring at this point as he felt the life slipping out of his body. Even if the holes in his neck hadn't been interfering with his breathing, Jonathan could feel that something had broken in his body, the strain of fighting against Dio having been too much to bear. If he'd been able to, Jonathan would have laughed. After all the horrors he'd managed to fight against, after surviving having his neck broken, he was going to die here, defeated by the severed head desperately trying to escape his grasp.
He could hear Dio pleading with him, making promises about immortality, life with Erina, anything if Jonathan will let Dio live. It's not the first time Dio has begged him so desperately with obvious lies, but Jonathan no longer finds it in him to care. In fact, he can't help but feel a strange fondness for Dio. It's not a feeling of brotherhood, no, not after everything that's happened. But, it's almost like friendship in a way and he can't help but suspect that maybe they really are one existence, as Dio claimed. If so, it's only fitting that they die together and leave the world behind.
The only thing he finds it in him to regret is leaving behind Erina. He can still feel her final kiss, warm and soft on his cold lips. Even now, he can hear her screaming his name and the only reason Jonathan truly doesn't move to comfort her is because he can't. His body is completely spent. And besides, she'll be alright. The coffin will keep her and the baby safe. Plus, Erina is a strong woman. As much as he hates to leave her alone in the world, Jonathan knows that she's strong enough to make it. She has to, if only for his sake. Those are his thoughts and hopes as his mind slips into unconsciousness and his heart finally stills, Dio still bargaining with him.
